The Dowagiac tennis team finally got to open its season against visiting Coloma Wednesday afternoon.

The Chieftains defeated the Comets 5-3.

Dowagiac swept the doubles flights to earn the victory. Its lone victory in singles came from Kristina Bunn, who defeated Kalin Flynn 6-2 and 6-3.

Dowagiac split a pair of JV matches Wednesday.

Mackanzie Ruff and Abby Brizendine defeated Coloma’s Donna Rothrock-Howe and Essi Miskanen in a six-game pro set.

Ryan Millin and MaKenna Kanow lost to Coloma’s Devon Watkins and Brenda Lewellen 6-3.
