To the editor:

Cassopolis Family Clinic Obstetrics and Gynecology (CFC OB/GYN) would like to thank Dowagiac Rotary Club for its generous support of the Lending Closet, a service of CFC’s Maternal Infant Health Program.
CFC OB/GYN, located at 60 N. St. Joseph Ave. in Niles, provides obstetrical care for women covered by the Michigan Medicaid Program, and serves residents of Cass and southeast Berrien counties.
The Lending Closet consists of new and gently used maternity and infant clothing for patients in need.
Patients may access clothing for themselves and their newborns, free of charge, due to generous donations from the community.
The Maternal Infant Health Program provides case management for expectant mothers by a team of professionals, including nurses, social workers and a dietitian.
These services are “wrapped” around the patients, along with high quality obstetrical care, to insure healthy mothers and babies.
Last year CFC provided obstetrical care for 832 women and performed 452 deliveries at Lakeland Community Hospital, Niles.
Seventy-six percent of patients entered into prenatal care in the first trimester of pregnancy.
The low birth weight rate was 6.5 percent compared to Michigan 2009 8.4 percent.
(The Henry L. Kaiser Family Foundation StateHealthFacts.org). Low birth weight is considered less than 2500 grams, or 5 pounds and 8.18 ounces.
We greatly appreciate the Rotary’s kindness to our expectant mothers and newborns.
