Janet Kay Meehling, 72, of Niles, died Monday, April 2, 2012, at Lakeland Community Hospital in Niles following a brief illness.

She was born March 22, 1940, in St. Johns, Mich., to James and Geraldine (Loudenbeck) Larkin. She moved to the Niles area in 1973 with her family.

Janet graduated from Southwestern Michigan College, where she earned her associate degree in nursing. She worked in the ER for the former Pawating Hospital (now Lakeland Community Hospital) in Niles and then in the oncology department at Memorial Hospital in South Bend. After working as a disability liaison nurse for Corvell Corp., she worked in the ER for both Borgess-Lee Memorial Hospital in Dowagiac and Watervliet Community Hospital.

Janet is survived by her son, Bryan (Erlinda) Meehling of Decatur; two daughters, Machel Meehling of Niles and Rene Clark of Bessemer, Ala.; eight grandchildren, one great-grandchild; and sister, Sharon (Darrell) Kadelsick of Florida.

Services for Janet Kay Meehling will begin 7 p.m. Friday, April 6, at the Halbritter Funeral Home in Niles with Ivan Darling officiating. Burial will take place at Payne Cemetery in Maple Rapids, Mich.

The family will receive relatives and friends from 6 p.m. until the time of service on Friday at the funeral home.
