Carolyn L. Knoll, 68, of Edwardsburg, passed to her rest Friday morning, March 23, 2012, at her home after an illness.
She was born April 6, 1943, in Michigan City, Ind., to Walter and Marie (Miller) Knoll. She resided in Michiana since 1966.
Carol graduated from Holy Cross School of Nursing in 1964 and nursed at Chicago Children’s Memorial Hospital. She returned to South Bend St. Joseph Medical Center in 1966. In 1970, she was with Visiting Nurses until 1981. She then returned to St. Joseph Medical Center as director of nursing. In 1990, she started a new career in travel until 2008. In the meantime, she earned her master’s degree in science and administration at the University of Notre Dame. She worked again in South Bend, doing nursing at Dr. Pai’s office from 2008 to 2010.
Carol was dedicated to hospice and she served on the board in St. Joseph County and also did volunteer work for hospice. Family and friends wish to express appreciation to Southern Care Hospice, especially Carol’s nurse, Julia, as well as the many friends and family who lend support and love to Carol and her family.
She is survived by a sister-in-law, Ruth Knoll of LaPorte, Ind.; and four nephews and a niece, Patricia (Andy) Smith of Michigan City, Michael (Donna) Knoll and David (Alice) Knoll, both of Michigan City, and Jeffery (Linda) Knoll of Indianapolis. She has an extended family of Mickey Wesoloski, Sally Cornwall and Debbie Kruyer, all of Edwardsburg. There are many other family and friends who loved Carol and her kindness.
Family who have passed include her parents and a brother, Robert.
Friends and family gathered Sunday, March 25, at Our Lady of the Lake Church, social hall, 24832 U.S. Highway 12 East, Edwardsburg, from 2 to 7 p.m. There was a prayer service at 7 p.m. in the social hall.
A Mass of Christian Burial was held Monday, March 26, Our Lady of the Lake Church at 11 a.m. Friends and family gathered from 10 to 11 a.m. at the church. Officiating was Father Joe McCormick, pastor.
