Nancy C. Beard, 76, of Cassopolis, died Thursday, March 8, 2012, in her home.

She was born in South Bend, Ind., on June 20, 1935, to Elza and Berniece
(Mitchell) Hill. She married Lawrence E. Beard on April 16, 1955. He preceded her in death on Jan. 13, 2007. She was also preceded by her parents and one sister, Susan Robinson.
Nancy always claimed that her prayer for her family was that if they did anything wrong, she prayed that they got caught.
She was a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church, Cassopolis. She enjoyed volunteering at church and in the community and taking care of family and friends, traveling (and more traveling!) and spending time with her grandchildren.
Her family says, “If anybody achieved her bucket list, it was our mom!”
Mrs. Beard is survived by: three daughters, Loree’ (Mark) Frank of Farmington Hills, Lorraine Beard Dukes of Wyoming, Phyllis Beard-Armstrong of Grand Rapids; two sons, Lawrence (Kathy) Beard Jr. of Rockford, Elza (Karen) Beard of Kentwood; 21 grandchildren, 34 great-grandchildren; three great-great-granddaughters; three sisters, Virginia Anderson of Cassopolis, Janet Belmont of Grand Rapids and Alice Hill of Cassopolis; and one brother-in-law, Fred Robinson of Grand Rapids.
Family and friends will gather on Saturday 1 p.m. until time of service at 2 p.m. at Connelly Chapel, Wagner Family Funerals, 202 North Broadway St., Cassopolis. The Rev. Paul Doellinger will officiate.
Family and friends will also gather for a memorial service on Sunday at 2 p.m. at Redeemer Lutheran Church, 1905 Madison SE, Grand Rapids.
Mrs. Beard’s remains will be laid to rest beside those of her late husband, Lawrence E. Beard Sr., in Graceland Memorial Park, Grand Rapids.
