Russell Eugene Wolkens, 81, of Niles, died at 1:07 a.m. Wednesday, March 7, 2012, at his home of natural causes.

He was born Feb. 16, 1931, in Buchanan. He was a lifetime area resident and U.S. Marine Corps veteran. Russell was a member of the Niles Moose Lodge and Niles Eagles. He farmed, fished, hunted and played pool. He was a crane operator at Clark Equipment Co.

Russell married Joyce M. Wolkens on Sept. 29, 1952, in San Diego, Calif. She preceded him in death on Oct. 24, 1990. He was also preceded in death by his parents, Clyde and Beatrice Wolkins, and a son, Russell Wolkens Jr.

He is survived by sons, Rick Wolkens of Niles and Ronald Wolkens of Houma, La.; eight grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.

No services will be held. Cremation has taken place.
