Snow or not, Thrill on the Hill is on

BUCHANAN — It may not look like snow, but this weekend’s Thrill on the Hill event in Buchanan is still a go.

Buchanan City Manager Bill Marx said the city will hold the city’s first sledding event on the hill by Front Street.

“We’re trying to predict the weather right now, looking into our crystal ball,” he said. “There’s still a lot of excitement, and we’re a go as far as I’m concerned.”

Marx said mounds of snow from throughout the city will be transported to the hill throughout the week.

About 485 cubic yards of snow will be needed, he said.

The snow will be packed down to create a toboggan run from the hill onto Front Street, and barriers will be created with hay bales and more snow.

The event will feature an 850-foot run and a shorter one for children.

Marx said ticket sales have been “strong,” and he’s expecting a good turnout.

“I’m pleased with the response,” he said.

A limited number of VIP passes for Friday night and Saturday tubing are available for $10 apiece.

Tickets for Saturday sledding only are $3. They can be purchased at Buchanan City Hall.

The city is also conducting an auction for the right to take the inaugural ride down the hill.
