Wanda M. Johnson, 80, of Kensington Drive in Niles, died at 5:35 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 8, 2012, at Buchanan Meadows Nursing
Home following an extended illness.
Mrs. Johnson was born Sept. 22, 1931, to Carl R. and Ethel M. (Lingle) Harbaugh. She graduated from Buchanan High School in 1949 with honors and was a lifetime Niles area resident. She managed the women’s department at Paul’s Toggery and Mayfair Shoppe in Niles, and was also employed at Majerek’s Book & Camera Shop in Niles and for Electro-Voice in Buchanan.
She was a member of Wesley United Methodist Church in Niles, where she served as an usher. She helped with the “Buckteens” to organize school reunions and functions and volunteered several thousand hours at Lakeland Community Hospital in Niles.
On March 6, 1954, in Niles, she married Richard E. Johnson, who preceded her in death in March 2005.
Wanda is survived by their son, Tim (Donna) Johnson and daughter, Susan (Gene Onken) Bobus, both of Niles; grandchildren, Matt and Sarah; her parents; and brothers, Jerry L. (& Ruth) Harbaugh of Arkansas and James L. “Jim” (Judy) Harbaugh of Niles.
Funeral service will begin at 11 a.m. Thursday, Jan. 12, at Halbritter Funeral Home in Niles with the Rev. Edward H. Slate of Niles Wesley United Methodist Church officiating.
Interment will follow at Mission Hills Memorial Gardens in Niles.
The family will receive relatives and friends from 5 to 7 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.
