The Niles wrestling team had all 10 wrestlers competing in the finals and consolation finals of the Orchard View Tournament Saturday to help lead the Vikings to the victory.

Niels finished with 233 points to easily outdistance runner-up Lansing Waverly, which finished with 182.5 points. Dansville was third with 145.

Winning championships for the Vikings were Brendon Meek (103), Casey Burandt (140), Jerricho Lamberton (145), Donte Stevens (152) and Ryan Casey (189).

“We wrestled completely opposite from Wednesday’s ugly guals,” Niles coach Todd Hesson said. “The kids worked hard over the past two days and made a complete turn around from Wednesday. I was very proud of those efforts. We still have a ways to go, but the Orchard View tournament got us headed in the right direction.

“This is the first time I can remember a tournament that we won all 10 consolation finals and championship finals matches. Ryan Casey won his first career tournament. Ryan works hard in practice every day. He is a strong kid, who hands in and grinds on you until he finally wears kids out.”
