Violet Mary Litty, 89 of Edwardsburg, passed to her rest on Dec. 21, 2011 at her home suddenly but of natural causes of heart failure.
She was born Aug. 22, 1922 in Charlotte, Mich., the daughter of the late Jesse and Estelle Edith (Short) Tomlinson.
Vi moved to the Edwardsburg area more than 60 years ago, where she married Michael F. Litty on Sept. 29, 1941 in Niles. Vi and Mike owned the Texaco Service in downtown Edwardsburg and the Western Auto in Edwardsburg. Mike passed in 1972.
In later years, Vi worked for Klinger’s Pharmacy in Edwardsburg and also H.E. Long Co. in Adamsville.
Surviving are her children Sandra (Bud) Pickens of Tempe, Az. And Michael (Cathy) Litty of Elkhart and Robert (Janice) Litty of Edwardsburg. There are five loving grandchildren, John Pickens of Tempe, Nicole Litty of Madison, Wis., Regina Litty of Edwardsburg, Robert (Desiree) Litty of Dowagiac and Joseph (Stacie) Litty of Edwardsburg. She also had two great-grandchildren, Ryleigh and Tullulah. A sister, Yvonne (Ted) Hageness of Yuma, Az. and a brother Clare (Lucille) Tomlinson of Marshfield Wis. also survive. One brother has passed, Jesse Tomlinson.
Vi enjoyed bowling, and she was a member of a team at Spanish Terrace for several years. She liked doing ceramics and raising her garden, as well as feeding and watching the birds.
Friends and family may gather 4 to 7 p.m. Tuesday at the Paul E. Mayhew Funeral Home, Edwardsburg. The Service of Remembrance will be 11 a.m. Wednesday at the funeral home. Burial will follow at Edwardsburg Cemetery.
