Corporations’ profit the priority for Republicans

To the editor:

The passage last week of Senate Bill 618 by a vote of 58-49 has proven once again that the Republicans in Lansing are more concerned with profit for corporations than they are for providing for the future education of our children and the will of their constituents.

Ignoring a hearty email and phone campaign from parents and educators expressing their opposition to this bill.

Even though many of the GOP legislators expressed a need to provide parents with choices, research has shown that charter schools do not perform as well as public schools and even with the quality standards passed along with this bill it will leave the students of this state at the mercy of corporate giants and their need to satisfy shareholders.

In the words of one GOP legislator I recently spoke to, “I’ve never witnessed a more blatant disregard for the will of the people than what is happening right now in our capital. It’s ugly and I’m disgusted by it.”

We as an organization hope that the voters will remember this in November.
