Big fourth quarter lifts ’Rocks

BERRIEN SPRINGS — A 25-point fourth quarter helped keep host Berrien Springs perfect Friday night.

The Shamrocks led by just five points, 38-33, heading into the final quarter of its Lakeland Conference boys’ basketball game with visiting Brandywine. Twenty-five points later, Berrien Springs owned a 62-40 victory.

The first two and a half quarters were close between the Bobcats (2-2, 1-2 Lakeland) and Shamrocks (4-0, 3-0 Lakeland). Brandywine led 9-7 after the first quarter, but trailed 19-18 at halftime.

A 45-point second half allowed Berrien Springs to pull away to the easy victory as the Bobcats could only muster 22 second half points.

The Shamrocks led 38-33 heading into the final eight minutes of play.

Jeffrey Gumbo and Jon Williams both scored a game-high 16 points for Berrien Springs.

Alex Erwin paced the Bobcats with 13 points. Mykal Toxepeus added 11 points.
