Theresa “Teri” L. Herbert, 93, of Niles, and formerly of New Jersey, died at 1:30 a.m. on Sunday, Dec. 11, 2011, at Woodland Terrace in Niles.
She was born on July 13, 1918, in New York City to Joseph and Agnes (O’Connel) Hecht. She attended Holy Angel High School in Fort Lee, N.J., and moved to Niles in 2005.
As a young lady, Teri was a beautician and eventually a homemaker as she chose to stay at home with her children. She was Catholic and enjoyed gardening and baking.
On Nov. 11, 1941, at Saint John’s Catholic Church in Leonia, N.J., she married James Peter Herbert, with whom she celebrated the 70th anniversary of that wedding last month.
Teri is survived by her husband, James P. Herbert of Niles, and by their children, Lorraine Herbert of Niles, James P. Herbert Jr. of Defuniak Springs, Fla., Joseph T. Herbert of Birmingham, Ala., William R. Herbert of Gilbert, S.C., and Robert G. Herbert of Niles; and grandchildren, John Isleib, Allison and Jessica Herbert, Jaime Knudsen, Gavin, Grayson and Molly Herbert.
She was preceded in death by her brother, Joseph Hecht.
The family will gather privately to memorialize the life of Teri. Interment will be at Brookside Cemetery in Englewood, N.J.. Arrangements were made at Halbritter Funeral Home in Niles.
