May 16, 1962 — Nov. 24, 2011
Maria Julia (McCreary) Sobieralski, 49, of Cassopolis, passed Thursday, Nov. 24, 2011, in Kalamazoo following an accident Tuesday.
She was born May 16, 1962, in Elkhart, Ind., to Lloyd and Ruth Geneva (Anderson) McCreary.
She was a 1980 graduate of Ross Beatty High School in Cassopolis. Maria worked for many years as a waitress at Virginia Hardy’s, Cassopolis, and at Rosie’s Filling Station, Edwardsburg, before deciding to make a career change. Maria went into RV product sales, where she worked for more than 10 years. During that time she attended Southwestern Michigan College and graduated in 2002 with dual associate of science degrees, with an emphasis on business and marketing.
Along with being a hard worker, Maria was a mother to her wonderful children, Frank and Jessica. She enjoyed spending time with them and surprising them with things like hiding their Christmas presents under their beds, or the new home that she had just purchased.
Maria will be remembered for her smile and willingness to help those in need.
She is survived by one son and daughter-in-law, Francis “Frank” and Barbie (Hartsell)
Starr III, Niles; one grandson, Adam Francis Starr; five sisters, Mary Hill, Heidi Heckman, both of Elkhart, Ind., Linda (James) Stevens, Mendon, Mich., and Sharon (Ken) Cothran, Stockton, Calif., and Patricia (Glen) Flicker, Elkhart; two brothers, twin brother, Marion “Bud” (Teri) McCreary, Edwardsburg, and Harold “Jimmy” (Phyllis) McCreary, Three Rivers; and multiple nieces and nephews.
Maria was preceded in death by her parents; infant son, Stephen Lee Starr; daughter, Jessica Starr, who was tragically lost on Aug. 8, 2011; sister, Kathryn Wierick; and brothers, Everard Stemm and Samuel McCreary.
Family and friends gathered Sunday, Nov. 27, at Penn Friends Community Church, 19107 Quaker St., Cassopolis from 2 p.m. until time of service at 3 p.m. with Pastor Steve Witzki officiating.
