Donna R. Fitzgerald, 80, 506 W. Walnut St., Nappanee, Ind., died Tuesday, Nov. 29, 2011, at 8:35 a.m. at Hubbard Hill Estates in Elkhart.
She was born Jan. 18, 1931, in Leesburg to Artie and Mable Huffer Roberts. She was a graduate of Atwood High School, and moved to Nappanee in 1953. Donna had been a receptionist at Beer and Slabaugh, and she also ran Shamrock Meadows trailer park in Nappanee for a few years. She was a member of the First Church of God in Nappanee, the American Legion Auxiliary, Fire Department Auxiliary and a former member of the Lions Club. She enjoyed genealogy, traveling with her husband and lighthouses. Donna taught nursery school at the church and also volunteered at the high school for special needs children.
She married Cecil Fitzgerald on March 3, 1951, at the Clunette Methodist Church. He survives, along with daughter, Christi (Steven) German, Nappanee; grandchildren, Janina Golden, Staff Sgt. William (Meghan) Harman, Brandon German and Tara (Jared) Rogers; brother Larry (Sharon) Roberts, Nashville, Ind.; and five great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her son, Gary; daughter, Connie Harman; and two brothers.
Friends and family may call Friday, Dec. 2, from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. at Thompson-Lengacher & Yoder Funeral Home, Nappanee, and one hour prior to the service on Saturday, which will be at 11 a.m., also at the funeral home.
Pastor Mark Stayton will lead the service.
Burial will be at Leesburg Cemetery.
