Abduction attempted in Dowagiac

Public Safety Director Tom Atkinson reports his department is investigating a possible abduction attempt and assault that occurred in Dowagiac on Tuesday evening.
City police were advised by the victim that she was walking alone on a bridge on Jefferson Street near Paris Street at approximately 7:30 p.m. Nov. 29.
She advised that a male subject in a white Ford pickup truck pulled next to her and told her to come to him.
She did not and it was reported that the male subject got out of the truck and began to drag the victim toward the vehicle.
The victim advised she was able to get away from the subject and ran from the scene to a residence in the area.
The suspect left in an unknown direction.
The victim, a 26-year-old Dowagiac resident, was not injured during this incident.
The suspect is described as a white male, approximately 40 years old, 6 feet tall with “dirty” blond hair.
The suspect was reportedly wearing a blue plaid flannel-type shirt.
The suspect vehicle is described as a newer model Ford pickup truck, white in color with some type of chrome roll-bar in the bed or back of the truck.
