Catherine “Katie” Marie Poorman, 84, of Stateline Road, Niles and formerly of New Buffalo, died at 10 a.m. Monday, Nov. 28, 2011, at West Woods of Niles following an extended illness.

She was born Nov. 25, 1927, in Indiana to Clarence Hickey and Maida Hickey. She was raised in South Bend and lived in New Buffalo most of her life.

Katie was previously employed at the New Buffalo Yacht Club. She was also previously employed at several other area restaurants. She was Catholic. She enjoyed playing bingo and the American Legion Post 26 in Niles, crocheting, cats and ice cream.

Her husband, Charles R. Poorman, died in 1987.

She was also preceded in death by her brothers, Clarence Hickey, Harold Hickey, Paul Hickey and Jay Hickey; sisters, Ivory VanKirk, Mary Rosetto, Viola Holly and Carol Berry.

She is survived by a sister, Paulina Heisel of Illinois; several nieces and nephews, including Mary L. (VanKirk) Yates of Edwardsburg; and her best friends, Jeannie Matles.

Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 3, at Halbritter Funeral Home in Niles with the Rev. David Otto of St. Mary Catholic Church officiating.

Burial will be at Forest Lawn Cemetery in Three Oaks.

Friends may call from 5 to 7 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.
