Dr. Clyde J. Remmo Sr., formerly of South Bend, Buchanan and Bristol, Ind., died Monday, Nov. 14, 2011, at Manor Care Health Center in Venice, Fla. after a year-and-a-half-long fight with stomach cancer.
Born in South Bend on Nov. 26, 1940, to Roy and Adelaide Remmo, Clyde was a graduate of St. Joseph High School. He went on to receive his bachelor of arts degree from Ball State University, a master of arts degree from Ball State University; a master of arts degree from Northern Colorado University; and a Ph.D. from Kennedy Western University. Clyde was a prominent Michiana area citizen serving in a multitude of capacities at Adams High School, LaSalle High School, the City of South Bend under Mayor Lloyd Allen’s administration, St. Mary’s College, city manager in Buchanan, Lake Michigan Community College, Southwestern Michigan Community College & Ivy Tech Community College and retired as an administrator with Elkhart Public Schools. Clyde was a golf enthusiast and chose to retire with his beloved wife Pat in Venice, Fla. He lived the final years of his life golfing with his brother Bill, fishing off the piers in Venice and hosting his children and grandchildren for visits.
Clyde is survived by his wife, Patricia; his children, Julie, Andy, Matt, Megan, Amy, C.J. and Heidi; his stepsons, Ted and Tim; his sisters, Toni Cannady and Karen Pernella; his 26 grandchildren and his six great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his daughter, Jennifer, and his brother, Bill.
A celebration of Clyde’s life will be held from 1 to 4 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 26, at Orchard Hills Country Club in Buchanan.
