LaVerne Tangeman, 95

LaVerne O. Tangeman, 95, formerly of Niles, died at 8:45 a.m. Tuesday, Nov. 22, 2011, at her home.

She was born April 22, 1916, in Paoli, Ind. to Archie Vernon James and Sarah Ellen (Pagett) James. She moved from Niles to Lawrence, Mich. in 1969.

LaVerne owned and operated Brandywine Food Mart, retiring after 20 years. She also owned and operated Brush Creek Campground fro 28 years.

She married Milton Arnie Tangeman on March 24, 1944 in Niles. She died April 7, 2000.

She was also preceded in death by a sister, Jessie Louise James, and a brother, William Harold James.

She is survived by a son, John Milton Tangeman of Lawrence, Mich.; grandchildren, Jennifer Lee Tangeman of Kalamazoo, Mich., John M. Tangeman, Jr. of Portage, Mich. and Tonya M. Tangeman of Michigan; great-grandchildren, Conner K. Tangeman of Kalamazoo, Lillyana B. Troxler of Kalamazoo, Shawn J. Troxler of Kalamazoo, Kody Tangeman of Portage, Siarha Tangeman of Portage, Alexander Tangeman of Portage, Elliana Tangeman of Portage and Leah Tangeman of Portage.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Monday, Nov. 28, at the graveside at Mission Hills Memorial Gardens in Niles.

There will be no visitation.

Arrangements have been made by Halbritter Funeral Home of Niles.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Humane Society or the donor’s choice.
