BUCHANAN — Buchanan volleyball standout Audrey Oake has signed a National Letter of Intent to continue her career at Grand Valley State University.

Oake, 17, has distinguished herself as a competitive volleyball player throughout a successful career that includes four years of varsity volleyball at Buchanan High School, six years of club travel volleyball and two years with Dunes Volleyball Club in Rolling Prairie, Ind.

Currently a candidate for the Michigan all-state volleyball team, Oake holds the Bucks’ records for number of single season spike attacks and number of career-high spike attacks. She was named to the first team All-Lakeland Conference squad the last three years and the all-region volleyball team the past two years.

Oake selected Grand Valley out of a slew of Division I, II and III colleges and universities who were competing for her enrollment, including Loyola University Maryland, Radford University, George Mason University and the University of Southern Mississippi.

“Grand Valley State just stood out to me,” said Oake. “They have a great volleyball team with a winning record and awesome coaching staff. Plus I really like the size of the school and the quality of the courses they offer.”

Oake signed an official letter of intent to play volleyball for the Lakers last Saturday.

She plans to major in sports medicine or physical therapy. Ultimately, she said, her goal is to coach volleyball at the college or university level.
