Albion College junior running back Clinton Orr and first-year kicker Nick Pendell have gained the Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association Football Offensive and Special Teams Player of the Week awards, respectively, in the wake of the Britons’ 41-14 victory over Trine University.
Orr, who hails from Buchanan, is being feted as the league’s offensive player of the week for the second time this season. He became Albion’s career rushing leader and clinched his second-straight MIAA rushing title (832 yards on 132 carries in six MIAA contests) by gashing Trine for 200 yards on 28 carries. Orr, who also caught two passes for 15 yards against Trine, was also named the MIAA’s Special Teams Player of the Week for the first week of the 2011 season. It is Orr’s eighth career MIAA Player of the Week award.
Pendell, an Ithaca product, kicked field goals of 35 and 26 yards and was perfect on five extra point attempts against Trine. He is being honored as the Special Teams Player of the Week for the second time this season.
As MIAA champion for the 34th time, Albion will represent the MIAA in the NCAA Division III Championship.
The Britons’ road through the 32-team bracket begins at 1 p.m. Saturday against the University of Wisconsin-Whitewater, the two-time defending Division III national champion and owner of a 40-game winning streak.
