Emilee Allan, an 18-year-old singer/songwriter who graduated from Edwardsburg High School in May, will open for country music legend
George Jones before she moves to Nashville to follow her dream of being discovered.
Emilee, who opens for Jones at 7:30 p.m. Oct. 28 at the Lerner Theater in Elkhart, Ind., has been singing since she was 8 when her grandfather bought her a karaoke machine.
She has been singing in an acoustic act with guitarist Nathan Miles for almost two years, playing at Fireside in Edwardsburg, Riverfront Cafe in Niles, Niles’ Riverfront Amphitheater and Pit Stop and Villa Macri in Granger, Ind.
For the past year, she has been traveling to Nashville to record her first CD, which should be out in December. She moves to Tennessee Nov. 1 to pursue her singing career.
In 2008, Emilee performed with Young Americans and was selected to perform an original song, “Today is the Day.”
Besides performing at local venues and festivals, this year she won a hometown talent show. While she enjoys writing music and preparing for shows, her favorite thing is performing on stage. Regardless of the venue, the energy of the crowd electrifies her.
Emilee’s music originally was country influenced by Carrie Underwood, but, over time, she discovered a soulful side to her voice, adding a little Norah Jones feel.
She writes about life and situations that happen — an easy way for her to express herself.
Trying to get her music recorded has been a long process.
She hopes soon to be able to share it with her fans.
