NILES — Richard P. “Dick” Chapell, 83, of Kephart Lane, Berrien Springs, died at 9:27 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 11, 2011, at Lakeland Regional Medical Center, St. Joseph, following an extended illness.
He was born Oct. 22, 1927, in Dowagiac to Carl and Hazel (Kinney) Chappell.
He graduated from Dowagiac high school and was a lifetime area resident.
He retired as a driver for John Nate Beverage Co.
Mr. Chappell was a veteran of the Korean Conflict, serving in the U.S. Army.
He enjoyed his family, marrying on Oct. 8, 1955, Arminia “Mary” (Garritano) Chappell.
His wife survives, along with: a son, Rich (Janice) Chappell of Berrien Springs; and granddaughters, Chelsea, Brooke and Hollie.
A son, Mark Chappell, preceded Dick in death on June 28, 1962.
Funeral services will be at 4:30 p.m. Friday, Oct. 14, at the Apostolic Lighthouse of Dowagiac with Pastor Casey Helmuth officiating.
Burial will be in Riverside Cemetery, Dowagiac.
Friends may call this afternoon from 3 to 4:30 at the church.
Memorials may be contributed to the donor’s choice.
