PLAINWELL — The Dowagiac freshmen football team dropped a 20-18 decision to host Plainwell Thursday night.
The Chieftains (4-2) had Bryce Dodd with 44 yards rushing and 39 yards passing with a touchdown. Chase Camp had a 19-yard touchdown reception, while Anthony Burling scored on a 58-yard run in the opening quarter and an 8-yard run in the third quarter.
Dowagiac led 18-14 with five minutes to play in the game, but the Trojans were able to rally for the victory.
“We didn’t play well on offense tonight and we really put our defense in some tough spots,” Dowagiac coach Tony Scaccia said. “They kids fought hard, but we came up short on quite a few opportunities to stop them and win the game. We have to work hard to get ready for Gull Lake.”
The Chieftains will host the Blue Devils Thursday night.
