Naida’s life began on Oct. 8, 1916, in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, the daughter of John R. and Ruth E. (Baugh) Palmer.
She was a graduate of Grant High School in Cedar Rapids.
Naida was united in marriage to William T. Byers on Oct. 9, 1936, in Iowa City, Iowa.
She and William settled in Dowagiac where William ran the Dowagiac Rexall Drug Store and Naida took care of the customers at the front of the pharmacy.
Naida loved her flower gardens and was a loving grandmother.
Her family includes: three daughters, Pat (Wayne) Laylin of Sister Lakes, Judi Prince of Portage and Karen Byers of Davenport, Iowa; grandchildren, Susan (Larry) Light of Cassopolis, Fred (Carla) Laylin of Dowagiac, Sheryl (Todd) Bounds of Dowagiac, Chris (Tom) Matthews of Dowagiac, Lori Ann Prince of Portage, Kathy (David) Stein of Virginia Beach, Lisa M. Prince of Portage, Scott C. (Gina) Prince of Holland and Bradley W. (Leslie) Prince of Duluth, Ga.; and several great-grandchildren.
Naida, 94, of Sister Lakes, passed away at her home surrounded by family on Sunday, Sept. 18, 2011.
She is preceded in death by her husband and three brothers, Robert, Clifford and Frederick Palmer.
Graveside services will be Wednesday at 1:30 p.m. at Riverside Cemetery led by Pastor Tim Vreeman.
