Albert T. Kantz, 82, of Edwardsburg, passed to his rest Saturday, Sept. 10, 2011 at Memorial Hospital, South Bend, where he had been a patient for one week.
He was born July 26, 1929 in Mishawaka to Donald E. and Marie (Keeley) Kantz. He graduated from Edwardsburg High School.
Al was a very active person in the Edwardsburg area. He was a member of the Edwardsburg American Legion, having served in the U.S. Army. He was a member of the Edwardsburg Fire Department and for many years was in attendance for many fires in the area. He and his late brother, Kenneth, were owners of A&K Excavation, where they were heavy equipment operators.
Al was married July 16, 1968 in Edwardsburg to Sally F. (Parish) White; they lived in Edwardsburg.
Surviving are his wife, Sally; son, Barry Kantz of Cassopolis; and two stepchildren, Mike (Amanda) White of Hickory, N.C. and Valerie (Kent) Stephens of Elkhart. There are four grandchildren and three great-grandchildren as well as a sister-in-law, Betty Kantz of Edwardsburg.
Members of his family who have passed include his parents and his brother, Kenneth, and a sister, Darlene Baughman.
Friends and family may gather Saturday, Sept. 17 from 10 to 11 a.m. at Hope United Methodist Church, 69941 Elkhart Rd., for a memorial service at 11 a.m. Officiating will be the Rev. Jeff Reese, church pastor.
Immediately following the service, there will be a gathering at the Edwardsburg American Legion for family and friends.
Burial of the cremains will be next week at Edwardsburg Cemetery with the U.S. Army Honor Guard.
