“Grandma Jackie,” 90, died Friday, Sept. 9, 2011, at Fountainview Place. She was born on April 12, 1921, in Dowagiac.
Jackie was preceded in death by adoptive parents, Edward and Alma (Price) Ferrier; husband, Leon Mickiewicz; and husband, Donald Barr.
Jackie lived most of her life in Dowagiac, moving to Fairington Apartments in South Bend, Ind., on Jan. 22, 1997.
Surviving are: a son, Edward (Penny) Mickiewicz of Cassopolis; a daughter, Victoria (Larry) Newman of Niles; a son, Bryan Barr (Gregory Beelaert) of South Bend; grandchildren, Traci Newman, Joe (Lynn) Mickiewicz, Dave Mickiewicz and Justin Barr; three great-grandchildren, Jordan Mickiewicz, Ty Mickiewicz and Samuel Ladyga; and a brother.
Her sister preceded her in death.
She worked hard as a waitress/bartender most of her life to raise three children on her own. She did a great job in doing that; all three of her kids own their own businesses.
After retiring from waitressing, Mrs. Barr worked for the Cass County Sherriff’s Office and for the Council on Aging.
Jackie loved going to Canada and the Upper Peninsula.
She was the only person her family knew who could do crossword puzzle in INK!
Private graveside services will be held at a later date.
Palmer Funeral Home-River Park, South Bend, is assisting with arrangements. Online condolences may be sent to the family at www.palmerfuneralhomes.com.
Jackie will be greatly missed but never forgotten.
Rest in peace, Mom. We love you.
