Chieftains swept by Wildcats

THREE RIVERS — The Dowagiac varsity volleyball team was swept by host Three Rivers Wednesday night in its Wolverine Conference opener, 3-0.

The Wildcats defeated the Chieftains 25-8, 25-9 and 25-8.

Dowagiac finished the night with just two kills — one each by Carly Polmcak and Rachel Bailey. Whitney Donaldson had two aces with Casey Weldy, Jessica Holmes and Bailey each picking up an ace.

Freshman volleyball

The Dowagiac freshmen volleyball team picked up a 2-1 victory over the Wildcats Thursday night.

Dowagiac defeated Three Rivers 25-19, 21-25 and 15-7.

Amanda Badner and Mary Magin were the top servers, followed by Leela Smith-Ferrier and Rosadio Murray.

Badner also led the team in kills along with Smith-Ferrier. Magin was tops in digs and McKensie Herter the leader in assists.

JV volleyball

Host Three Rivers swept the Dowagiac JV 25-10 and 25-23.

Brianna McCuddy led the team offensively with seven serves, three spikes, two tips and a block. Autum Pegan added four serves.

Makenna Kanous, Maddison Proshwitz and Nicole Irwin each contributed three serves. Courtnry Hunsberger led the team defensively with four digs.
