Margaret E. Sprague, 75, of Dowagiac, passed away at 2:20 p.m. on Monday, Aug. 29, 2011, at Cass County Medical Care Facility, Cassopolis.

Peggy’s life began on March 30, 1936, in Cassopolis, the daughter of Lawrence and Cecil (Wire) Nelson. She was a 1954 graduate of Dowagiac Central High School.

Peggy was united in marriage to Charles R. Sprague on June 19, 1954, at Silver Creek United Methodist Church.

Peggy was a 4-H leader for many years and served as superintendent of the flower building at the Cass County Fair.

She was a longtime member of Silver Creek United Methodist Church.

Peggy loved to sew, quilt, garden and study genealogy.

Her loving family includes: her husband, Charles Sprague of Dowagiac; children, Linda (Ken) Baker of Vienna, W.Va., and David (Crystal) Sprague of Dowagiac; grandchildren, Jason (Amanda) Sprague and Justin Sprague, both of Dowagiac, Zachary Baker of Charleston, W.Va., and Breanna Baker of Vienna, W.Va.; Sisters, Nancy Thorne of Lady Lake, Fla., and Jackie Craven of Goshen, Ind.

Peggy is preceded in death by her parents and brothers Larry and Stephen Nelson.

Peggy’s family will gather with friends on Thursday from 6 to 8 p.m. at Yazel and Clark Chapel.

Her funeral service will be at 11 a.m. Friday at Silver Creek United Methodist Church led by Pastor Heather McDougall.

She will be laid to rest in Riverside Cemetery. Memorial contributions in her name may be directed to Silver Creek United Methodist Church.
