Peggy Jo Cottrell, 48, of Danville, Ill. and previously of Buchanan, passed away at University of Chicago Medical Center Friday, Aug. 26, 2011
after a long and courageous battle with cancer.
Peggy was born Dec. 15, 1962 to Edward and Beverly (Sharp) Cottrell in Niles. She was the youngest of four children in the Cottrell household.
Peggy worked at Village Garden Restaurant for more than 13 years; she made some of her best friends working there. Together with her friends and family she enjoyed watching college football, especially Notre Dame and NASCAR, where she always rooted for her “Superman,” Jimmy Johnson. When she was younger, Peggy even showed the family dog, “Candy,” with 4-H and was the grand champion at the Berrien County Youth Fair.
Peggy has gone to heaven, where she will meet her grandma, Eleanor Sharp, and niece, Michelle Erin Lamb.
Peggy is survived by her parents, Ed and Beverly; children, Craig Blackwell of Buchanan, Chris (Sarah) Blackwell of Danville, Ill. and Karen Blackwell of Danville; granddaughter, Aleena Ledesma; siblings, Pam (Mike) Obenland of Danville, Pattie Cottrell of Niles and Ed (Edna) Cottrell of Dowagiac; along with a host of other family and friends including her loving dog, IzzyPoo.
A time of visitation will be held Wednesday, Aug. 31 at Brown Funeral Home & Cremation Services from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. with funeral services beginning at 1 p.m. Her sister, the Rev. Pamela Obenland, will be officiating.
Memorial donations may be made in Peggy’s memory to Berrien County Cancer Services at 7301 Red Arrow Highway; Stevensville, MI 49127.
