The Wolverine Conference golf chase got a little tighter Wednesday morning at Indian Lake Hills Golf course.

Allegan leapfrogged over Monday’s winner Plainwell at runner-up Vicksburg to capture the second jamboree of the season. The Tigers shot 188, which was a stroke better than the Trojans, who finished second with a 188. Vicksburg, which finished second on Monday, ended up third after tying with Paw Paw Paw with a 197.

The Redskins got the nod for third place based on fifth-man scoring.

Three Rivers moved up from ninth place to fifth place with its 221. South Haven (223), Comstock (226) and Otsego (230) rounded out the team scores. Host Dowagiac had just three players available and did not post a team score.
Plainwell maintained its lead with 17 points, but Allegan moved up to second place with 16 points. Vicksburg is third with 14 points, Paw Paw fourth with 13 points and South Haven fifth with eight points. Otsego (7), Three Rivers (6), Comstock (6) and Dowagiac (4) round out the standings.

“I had a couple of girls who were unavailable due to illness and injury,” Dowagiac coach Van Johnson said.

Plainwell’s Hannah Lewis was the medalist for the second consecutive match as she shot a two-over par 37.

Dowagiac got a career-best 49 from Maggie Cripe. Haley Smith shot 56 and Lauren Krueger shot 66.

“The girls who came out and played, played fairly well. Maggie Cripe shot 49, which is the first time she has posted a score under 50 in a match.”

The Wolverine Conference will head to South Haven and HawkHead Monday morning for the third league jamboree.
