The Edwardsburg tennis team opened up its season with a 6-2 victory over visiting Elkhart Memorial Thursday afternoon.

The two teams were supposed to play Michigan rules, however, Elkhart Memorial only had eight players, so they forfeited the No. 3 and No. 4 doubles flights.

Winning singles matches for the Eddies were Anthony Dopp, Corey Stoneburner and C.J. Alwine.

Josh Kozinski and Andrew Reynolds were winners at No. 1 doubles.

“I thought we played really well,” Edwardsburg coach Mark Zarycki said. “The No. 1 singles match was a great match. They both pretty familiar with each other, so it went back and forth. Josh and Andrew look like a good pair. They won a good match too.

“If we can get our doubles teams to jell together, I look for us to do some things this season.”

The victory avenged a 3-2 setback at the hands of Elkhart Memorial last year.

The Eddies will travel to Vicksburg on Monday for their next match.
