Kenneth L. Haug, 86, died at his home in Niles on Aug. 3, 2011 after a brief illness.
Mr. Haug was born Nov. 28, 1924 in Quinnesec, Mich. to Odin and Margaret (Vigren) Haug and lived 50 years in Garden City, Mich. before moving to Niles. He studied for his bachelor’s degree at Holy Cross College, Worcester, Mass. and Northern Michigan University, and for his master’s degree in education administration at the University of Michigan. He retired from Livonia Public Schools after 37 years as a high school math teacher.
Mr. Haug was a commissioned officer in the U.S. Navy and a veteran of World War II.
He was a respected and dedicated member of the Seventh-day Adventist Church, most recently a member of Pioneer Memorial Church, serving his church in many leadership positions. He was a devoted family man and enjoyed travel and the outdoors.
He married his childhood sweetheart, Dolores I. (Miresse) Haug in Miami, Fla. in 1945. She and their two children survive. Their children are Daniel J. (Mary Ann) Haug of Aurora, Colo. and Rebecca L. (Donald L.) May of Berrien Springs; grandsons, Brian H. Haug, Justin D. (Dana) Haug and Robert S. Haug. His sister, Phyllis D. Strohl of Menominee, Mich. and many beloved nieces and nephews survive.
Mr. Haug was preceded in death by his sisters, Doris, Dora, Erma, Ethel and Eunice, and brothers, Norman and Robert.
A memorial service for Kenneth L. Haug will be held in the Seminary Chapel on the campus of Andrews University, Berrien Springs on Saturday, Aug. 13 at 4 p.m.
Interment will be at a later date at Michigan Memorial Gardens in Flat Rock, Mich.
In lieu of flowers, Mr. Haug requested any memorial gifts be made to his church’s Sabbath School work that meant so much to him.
