John Lewis Syson Sr., 63, of Orchard Lane in Niles, died at 11:42 a.m. Tuesday, Aug. 2, 2011 at Saint Joseph Regional Medical Center in Mishawaka, Ind. suddenly of natural causes.
Mr. Syson was born on Jan. 20, 1948 in Niles to Lewis “John” and Betty Rose (Gray) Syson. He graduated from Niles High School with the Class of 1966. He started his career at Simplicity Pattern Co. in Niles and continued in the printing industry as a printer in Texas, California and New York. He was currently employed at Hampshire Country Club in the Pro Shop.
John loved to golf. As a child he enjoyed riding horses at Laughin’ Place Stables in Niles. He continued his love of horses through racing “Trotters and Pacers” for many years.
On Feb. 15, 1969 in Niles, he married the former Colleen R. Bucha, who survives. Surviving family also includes their son, John Lewis (Molly) Syson Jr. of Niles; grandchildren, Kyle Kelley and Dylan Syson; his mother, Betty R. Syson, brother, Donald (Sharon) Syson and sister, Brenda (James) Jacobs, all of Niles; and many nieces, nephews and great-nieces and nephews.
Mr. Syson was preceded in death by his father, Lewis “John” Syson.
Funeral services for John Lewis Syson Sr. will be held at 2 p.m. Friday, Aug. 5 at Halbritter Funeral Home in Niles, with the Rev. Carl W. Bassett of St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Niles officiating.
Internment will be at Mission Hills Memorial Gardens in Niles.
The family will receive relatives and friends beginning at noon until the time of the service on Friday at the funeral home.
Contributions in memory of John may be made to the Humane Society of St. Joseph County.
