The Bertrand Township Board is complete after voters elected Scott Bonner as the new township supervisor and Alice Kring to the vacant trustee post.
Bonner takes over for ex-supervisor John Mefford, who voters recalled from office in May. Kring replaces Dick Haigh, who was also recalled.
Bonner, who owns a real estate appraisal firm in the township, had 261 votes, while local college instructor Matt Remmo had 86 votes. Retired trucker Earl Lintz received 37.
Kring defeated her challenger, Anna Norton, 230-150.
Clerk Jane Lano said voter turnout was “very good” with 385 ballots cast out of 2,154 registered voters in the township.
During his campaign, Bonner stressed the importance of communication in the township, pointing out the need for a township website and newsletter.
“There was a lack of communication to the people (under the previous supervisor),” Bonner said in an interview last week. “I want to be able to talk openly with board members and people in the township.”
