Charles Leroy Steiner, 75, of Ann Arbor, went to be with the Lord July 29, 2011 in Ann Arbor with family at his side.

Charles was born June 7, 1936 in Niles to Dr. Gail Steiner and Helen Steiner. He was a devoted husband to Stella (Reed) since November 1957.
Charles attended Culver Military Academy; obtained a bachelor’s degree from the University of Michigan, where he was actively involved in Phi Gamma Delta; and a master’s degree in business from the University of Missouri. He was a valued vice president of NSK Corp. in Ann Arbor for more than 30 years.
Charles actively supported his children by serving as Scout master, Little League ball coach and swimming chaperone. He loved sports and supported the University of Michigan football and basketball. He swam two miles a day until his heart would not allow it, then he switched to walking two miles daily. He thoroughly enjoyed watching birds and squirrels share his bounty.
Charles was a beloved member of the First United Methodist Church of Ann Arbor, where he served as an usher. Chuck was a very strong, intelligent man who made everyone feel special because he saw the best in them. His faith was extraordinary and was clearly displayed in the way he loved each person he met.
He is survived by his wife of 53 years and children, Gail (wife, Julie Pomerville) of Ann Arbor, Kelly of South Carolina, Scott of Louisiana, and beloved former daughter-in-law Mary Frances Steiner. He was a wise mentor to grandchildren, Matthew of Ann Arbor, Charles Mormon of South Carolina, Ian Pomerville and wife Corey of Vermont and Andrew Pomerville of Massachusetts. His brother Tim (wife, Jill) and sister Marcia (husband, Jim Cousins) live in Michigan. He is also survived by loving nieces and nephews.
Charles’ ashes will be placed in the memorial garden of The First United Methodist Church on State Street in Ann Arbor.
A private family memorial service will be held at a future date.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the memorial garden of The First United Methodist Church, Doctors Without Borders or the Huron Valley Humane Society.
