Larry Watson missed out on winning the Dowagiac City Tennis Tournament men’s singles championship in 2010 as he and his partner Kurt Wiesemes by Dave Negron and Mike Urbanski.

Watson and Jim Darr, the 2009 champions, paired up Saturday to hand Negron and Urbanski a 6-3 and 7-5 setback to win the championship.

Watson and Darr rallied from a 5-2 deficit in the second set to claim their third title in four years.

Watson and Darr advanced to the finals with a 6-3 and 6-2 win over Marc Tyrakowski and Dylan Chorba in the opening round. Negron and Urbanski knocked off Michael Robbins and David Sidenbender in straight sets 6-1 and 6-3.

In the only women’s match, Alex Watts and Haley Jones defeated Sue Watson and Shelly Urbanski 6-1 and 6-4 to take the title.

The mixed doubles tournament will get under way Sunday at 8 a.m. There are seven teams competing for the championship.
