Niles’ Ecker falls in third round

HIGHLAND – Four different Michigan universities will be represented by the semifinalists in the 95th Michigan Women’s Amateur when the fourth round of match play gets under way Friday morning at Prestwick Village Golf Club.
Sarah Johnson (Eastern Michigan University/Wixom) will go against Christine Meier (Michigan State University/Rochester Hills) and Meagan Bauer (University of Michigan/Grand Blanc) will tee off against Sarah Hoffman (Grand Valley State/Seline).
Hoffman had the closest quarterfinal of the day, besting Oakland University’s Elizabeth Ecker (Niles) 2 and 1.
Stroke play medalists Johnson dominated her EMU teammate Stephanie Ross 6 and 4. In the other matches, Meier topped Leah Grawburg (Mount Pleasant) 7 and 6 and Bauer defeated Devon Compton (Rochester) 5 and 4.
