Sluggers win BPA crown

The Niles Sluggers will take an impressive 48-6-2 record into the season finale in the Wisconsin Dells this weekend.

The Sluggers went 6-0 in winning the BPA Michigan state championship July 10. There were 24 teams that participated in the tournament.

Niles defeated the West Michigan Riptide 4-3 to take the title. It also defeated Backyard Dreams (12-1), Kalamazoo Titans (5-0), BC Scorpions (3-0), NFNB Cobras (5-3) and the Diamonds Reds (8-1).

On Sunday, the Sluggers captured the BPA World Series title in Warsaw, Ind. with an 8-5 win over the Indiana Bearcats. Niles was 6-1 at the tournament.

The Sluggers also defeated Stars Academy (6-5), the Fort Wayne Indians (11-3), Indiana Nitroz (10-0), I Cobras (2-0), Michiana Scrappers (6-4) and lost to the Bearcats 5-4 to force a second title game.

The team consists of Dalton Raymond, Lance Sheteron, Matt Smith. Augustin Rubalcava, Aaron Bond, Dean Klann, Daulton Ryans, Joby Kawaski, Murphy Jobin, Brendon Meek, Tyler Clutter, Cody Quier and Jordon Ruelle.

The manager is Troy Meek. Coaching are Dave Ryans, Tim Quier and Dean Raymond. Bill Jobin serves as the scorekeeper.
