Berrien County board seeking community members to serve on commissions

The Berrien County Board of Commissioners has announced that a few boards and commissions have positions with terms expiring or have vacancies and are seeking volunteers who would like to serve.

The acceptance period for applications is through Tuesday, July 26.

The Health Board has a vacancy with a term expiring April 19, 2012. The Health Board provides policy leadership and oversight for the Health Department of Berrien County. It is comprised of seven individuals that are appointed by the Board of Commissioners. The meetings are held on the first Wednesday of each month at 8 a.m. at the Health Department located at 769 Pipestone Rd. in Benton Harbor, with the exception of the July meeting held in Niles and the May meeting held on M-139.

The St. Joseph River Harbor Authority has a vacancy for the City of Benton Harbor. The applicant must reside in or own property within the City of Benton Harbor. The Authority was established for the administration, development, and promotion of commercial and recreational usage of the St. Joseph River Harbor and its environs. The Authority is comprised of those that represent commercial shipping, recreational boating, port or marina operators and economic development. The position has a term expiring December 31, 2011, however, a full term is for three years. The meetings are held on the first Thursday of each month at 1:30 p.m. at the Administration Center, 701 Main St., St. Joseph.
