ST JOSEPH - After five very successful years as head coach at St. Joseph High School, Elliot Uzelac has announced his resignation.
Uzelac's took over a program that had gone 0-9 in 2005 to playoff appearances the next five seasons. Elliot was named Michigan Coach of the Year in 2007.
During his tenure, football numbers climbed dramatically both in the number of athletes participating and also in attendance and support from the community.
“Elliot's contribution to our community went far beyond the wins on the football field. The excitement and enthusiasm that was created infused and lifted the entire district,” Al Skibbe, Superintendent of Schools said. “Elliot's commitment to excellence was evident in everything he did. He was a role model on and off the field.”
“His own actions proved that hard work and dedication to a goal could bring success to any endeavor. He will be greatly missed by the entire St. Joseph community,” added Board President Amy Porritt-Peirce.
During his tenure Uzelac won three conference, two district and one regional championship and sent 17 students to play at the college level. His overall record was 45-12.
