Mike’s life began on May 25, 1944, in Dowagiac, the son of Dalton “Mike” and Waive (Shaffer) Lawrence.
He served his country in the U.S. Army during Vietnam.
Mike was united in marriage to the former Elizabeth Green on Oct. 25, 1969, in Dowagiac.
Mike was employed by the Cass County Road Commission for 32 years, retiring in 2006. He later went to work for Hale’s Hardware in Dowagiac.
Mike loved people and everyone loved Mike. He never met a stranger and never passed up a chance to have a conversation with a friend.
Mike loved airplanes and was a member of the Dowagiac Experimental Aircraft Association 1028 based at the Dowagiac Airport.
He was serving as vice president of the EAA at the time of his passing.
He had been an active member of the Dowagiac Jaycees.
He was a loyal Michigan State University and Detroit Lions fan.
Most of all, Mike loved spending time with his family and especially his kids. His loving family includes his wife of 41 years, Liz Mott of Dowagiac; his children, Michael James (Becky) Mott of Decatur, Bradley (Kristal) Mott of Clinton Township, Mich., and Jason (Stephanie) Mott of Dowagiac; grandchildren, Ezekiel Mott, Riley Mott and Brenna Mott; his sister, Bonnie Lawrence of Dowagiac; mother-in-law, Barbara Green of Dowagiac; and sister-in-law, Kathy Mott of Jasper, Ind.
Mike, 67, of Dowagiac, passed away on Thursday, June 23, 2011, at his home surrounded by family.
He is preceded in death by: his parents; a brother, Daniel Mott; and father-in-law, Kenneth Green.
Mike’s family will gather with friends on Tuesday from 2 to 4 p.m. at Yazel and Clark Chapel, where his funeral service will be held on Tuesday at 4 p.m.
He will be laid to rest with military honors in South Wayne Cemetery following the service.
