BROOKLYN – It was a breakthrough day for Denny Hamlin and his team.

The winner of eight races in 2010, Hamlin came to the Irish Hills of Michigan and thanks to a late caution, was able to hold off Matt Kenseth to win the Helluva Good! Sour Cream Dips 400 at Michigan International Speedway on Sunday for his first victory of 2011.

A caution inside of 10 laps caused when Dale Earnhardt Jr. cut down a tire and hit the ball between turns one and two, shuffled the running order one final time.

Hamlin’s pit crew got him out in front for the final restart and although Kenseth gave it everything he had, the No. 11 FedEx Toyota came home first, his second win at MIS.

Kyle Busch, who dominated the middle of the race, but got mired back in the field following a bad restart, finished third. Paul Menard was fourth and Carl Edwards, who led the race in the closing stages, finished fifth.

Ryan Newman was sixth, teammate and car owner Tony Stewart was seventh, while Clint Bowyer was eighth, Mark Martin ninth and Brian Vickers 10th.
