Noble ties for second at golf finals

EAST LANSING – After shooting 75 on Saturday, Niles' Chris Noble had to settle for a second place tie at the Division 2 Boys' Golf Finals at Forest Akers East on the campus of Michigan State University. Noble finished in a three-way tie for second with Gull Lake's Bryan Vandenberg and Bobby Thomas of Tecumseh at 143. Bloomfield Hills Cranbrook-Kingswood's Griffin Smith won the individual state championship after shooting 71 on Saturday and finishing with a two-day total fo 141. Noble took a two-stroke lead into today's competition after shooting a four-under-par 68 on Friday. That round included an eagle and four birdies. As a team, the Vikings finished 14th, moving up one spot from Friday. Defending champion DeWitt was the class of the field, shooting 586 to claim the title once again. DeWitt shot 292 on Friday. Cranbrook-Kingswood finished second at 603 with Clio taking third (609), Tecumseh fourth (609) and Big Rapids fifth (615). Niles finished with a team total of 654. John Schrader finished with a 165 for the Vikings, while Jared Langmeyer shot 173, Brett Phillips shot 174 and Sam Clark shot 183. In Division 3, Dowagiac's Chris Craft shot 80 on Saturday and had a two-day total of 161 at Forest Akers East. Aaron Knutson of Pontiac Notre Dame Prep was the individual champion as he shot 140 after winning a one-hole playoff with Grand Rapids West Catholic's Sam Weatherhead. Jackson Lumen Christi captured the Division 3 team championship after shooting 599. Grand Rapids South Christian was second at 639 and Grosse Ile third at 641. Notre Dame Prep and West Catholic tied for fourth (644). At The Meadows in Allendale, Cassopolis' Blaise Suseland shot 87 on Saturday and finished with a two-day total of 169. Henry Do of Ann Arbor Greenhills captured the individual title with a 141.
