INDIANAPOLIS – The first double file restart in Indianapolis 500 history resulted in the first hard crash of the race on last 27.

The crash claimed E.J. Viso in the No. 59 KV Racing Technology Lotus.

At the time of the crash, Scott Dixon had reclaimed the lead with Alex Tagliani in second, Townsend Bell in third, Dario Franchitti in fourth and Oriol Servia in fifth.

The second attempt at a double file restart went without a hitch with a couple of cars making passes as the field headed into the first turn.

Tagliani took the lead back at lap 34 only to have Dixon come back to go ahead the very next lap.

On of the biggest movers in the field is Tony Kanaan, who started 22nd. Kanaan was up to eight place at lap 36.

At lap 40, there were three former winners in the top four with Dixon, Franchitti and Dan Wheldon.

Due to the two yellow flags, the average speed of the race was down to 153.797.
