Shanita L. ‘Shani’ Zinn retires June 10

After 34 years of dedicated service, Shanita L. (“Shani”) Zinn will retire from Borgess-Lee Memorial Hospital on June 10.

“Shani has not only given us more than 30 years of outstanding supervisory experience, but has also embodied the spirit of caring and compassion for which Borgess-Lee is known,” said Joy Strand, administrator and chief operating officer, Borgess-Lee Memorial Hospital. “She will truly be missed. We wish her health and the very best in her retirement.”

Zinn decided to make Borgess-Lee her “work home” upon the urging of Dr. James Wierman.

Her career started in 1977 as director of the cardiopulmonary department.

In 2008, she was promoted to director of clinical services, where she has since supervised operations of the cardiopulmonary, laboratory, radiology and multi-specialty clinics.

Zinn is a licensed certified respiratory therapist technologist (LCRTT).

Prior to Borgess-Lee, she worked as a staff respiratory therapist at Berrien General Hospital, performing all types of respiratory therapy and diagnostic electrocardiograms (EKGs).

“I’ve spent a big chunk of my life at Borgess-Lee,” she said, “and I can say with great confidence and fondness that everyone who works here really cares about the people and the community they serve.”

During her retirement, Zinn and her husband, John, will hit the open road on their motorcycles.

First, they are headed on an extended trip to California, where they will visit Yellowstone and Yosemite parks, as well as tour San Francisco.

Zinn also plans on gardening and spending more time with her grandchildren.
