Edwardsburg and Cassopolis played to a 2-2 tie in the final Lakeland Conference match of the season for the two teams.

With the tie, Edwardsburg captured the league championship outright after going 9-0-1. The Rangers finish in second place at 8-1-1. Cassopolis’ only loss in the conference was a 3-0 win by the Eddies back on May 2.

The Rangers came out strong slightly edging the Eddies in possession and shots on goal in the first half.

Nevertheless, Edwardsburg managed to take advantage of some ill-timed defensive lapses by the Rangers, putting two goals in the net within a minute of each other in the 16th and 17th minutes of play, both by Aly Mooth.

The Rangers keeper, Molly Moroz, thwarted a potential third Eddies goal when she stopped a penalty kick by the Mooth.

Despite the score, the Rangers kept their heads up and continued their attack.

In the 31st minute, the Rangers finally found the net when Bjargey Olafsson took a pass from midfielder Sierra Westphal, dribbled up and took a left-footed crack at the ball, which soared past the Eddies’ keeper.

Both teams came out strong in the second half vying for possession and shots.

The Rangers again put the ball in the net in the 15th minute of the second half on a corner kick by Jessica Waldschmidt that was headed in by Meagan Ruff.

Unfortunately for the Rangers, no goal was given when the ball was called out of bounds prior to being headed in.

Despite that setback, the Rangers again found the net with just 1:46 left on the clock, when Olafsson made a long cross from the outside and Waldschmidt headed it in, bringing the final score to a tie.
