INDIANAPOLIS — What was once a wild idea on paper is now coming to fruition as the Traxxas TORC Series track layout will be put to the test this week for the Saturday and Sunday TORC round at the legendary Red Bud MX track in Buchanan.

Questions are buzzing around the MX and off-road industries. Will they run the trucks around the famous Grass Track where Stanton & LaRocco battle in Red Bud’s fall classic MX event? Launch them off the massive ski jump, aka “Alessi Falls?”

According to Red Bud’s Amy Ritchie, the popularity of the TORC trucks with the annual Red Bud MX National’s fans was apparent two years ago when Johnny Greaves took his Monster Energy/Toyota for a hot lap in front of the 30,000-plus faithful at the nation’s No. 1 attended outdoor MX national.

“We think the Traxxas TORC Series is a great fit for RedBud,” said Amy Ritchie. “Johnny Greaves’ appearance here a couple years ago was a huge hit with the motocross crowd. And when you bring legendary MX riders like RJ (Rick Johnson) and (Jeremy) McGrath and their trucks into the mix, it’ll be a bonus for our MX fans that want to check out the sport of short course racing.”

Putting the dozer blade to the Red Bud soil to widen some of the existing motocross course while adapting a good portion of Red Bud’s rolling 230-acre expanse for the 900-horsepower, 4,000-pound PRO trucks will be Tim Ritchie.

“I’m really looking forward to what the TORC and USAC guys have in mind for Red Bud,” said Tim Ritchie. “I’m a motocross guy, so it’s a bit tough to fathom what these trucks can do, especially considering how powerful they are and how fast they run. Fortunately we’ve got a ton of property to work with surrounding the Red Bud motocross track — property that’s far less technical than what fans are used to seeing with the dirt bikes. So this’ll be perfect for the TORC trucks.”

As with its July 4 AMA MX National, Red Bud will offer a similar camping scenario — complete with a family-only lot and an adult lot. Camping for both Friday and Saturday nights for the Traxxas TORC Series event at Red Bud will be available.

And the same enhancements fans have come to expect with the Red Bud MX National — the fireworks and live entertainment — will be showcased at the Red Bud/TORC event. There will also be an MX display for the off-road fans previewing the July 4 event.

About Red Bud

Red Bud supports the sport of motocross and has since 1972.

The region’s most prestigious amateur events and round six of the AMA Motocross Championship are held in the beautiful rolling hills of southwestern Michigan. A state with an affinity for off-road recreational vehicle use, Red Bud owns the bragging rights to the highest attended U.S. motocross race year after year.

Just the right soil mix, lots of passing and the “biggest” jump on the circuit (LaRocco’s Leap), the track provides for some terribly exciting motocross racing. Definitely a top motocross and now off-road racing destination in a region that loves its motorsports.
