STEVENSVILLE — Niles’ Ashley Love is a Big 16 Conference track champion.

Love captured the long jump title on Tuesday at Lakeshore High School as she had a leap of 16-9.75.

She was the lone Niles athlete to win a Big 16 championship. Miranda Baker was third in the high jump with a height of 5-1, while the Vikings’ 800-meter relay team of Paige Chaffin, Taylor Brandstatter, Lashonda Green and Love finished fifth with a time of 1:50.96.

Portage Northern won the meet with 107 points. Battle Creek Lakeview was second with 103. Niles finished 10th with 21 points.

In the boys’ portion of the meet, the Vikings’ 800-meter relay team of Ronnie Jones, Cicone Palmore, Myles Busby and Brandon Partee finished second with a time of 1:32.85.

Jones also took a third in the 200-meters with a time of 23.36, while Quintin Irby was fourth in the 400-meters with a clocking of 52.50.

Niles also got a fifth place finish from its 400-meter relay team of Anthony Bice, Darius Beck, David Hayes and Joe Donoho, which ran a time of 45.63. Jordan Potthoff was fifth in the discus with a toss of 136-5.

Battle Creek Lakeview won the meet with 102 points. Mattawan was second with 87. Niles finished ninth with 32 points.
