Chieftain softball team swept by host Otsego

OTSEGO — Visiting Dowagiac dropped a pair of Wolverine Conference games to Otsego Friday afternoon.

The Bulldogs defeated the Chieftains 2-1 and 7-2.

In the opener, Otsego scored a run in the bottom of the seventh to edge the Chieftains.

Both Molly Sleeman of Otsego and Tara Sova of Dowagiac pitched gems.

Sleeman tossed a three-hitter with seven strikeouts. Sova scattered seven hits and struck out a pair.

Katie Lorenz had a single and a double for Dowagiac. Tori Hook tripled and Erica Nuyen doubled for the Bulldogs.

In the second game, Sleeman gave up two runs on five hits with six strikeouts.

Otsego scored two runs in the second, third and sixth innings to earn the victory.

Sleeman helped her own cause with a pair of doubles. Emily Karmon also had a double for the Bulldogs.

Rachel Bailey had two hits for Dowagiac. Miranda East took the loss. She struck out four.
